Q: |
How is the C942 different from the C711WT? |
A: |
The C942 has the white first in the print path so you can lay a white base layer first and print color on top of it in a single pass through the printer. The C711WT is a desktop class printer while the C942 is intended for a higher-volume print shop environment. The C942 offers features you would typically find in units costing in excess of $100K, such as high-capacity tabloid paper handling, media weights of 360 gsm, high-speed print capabilities, high-volume toner cartridges, and an optional EFI® Fiery® XF 5 Server for color matching. The 5th toner cartridge enables white printing while retaining a pure black toner cartridge. |

Q: |
Are there instructions on how to use this printer? |
A: |
Yes, you can download Printing with White Toner on the OKI C942, as well as the User’s Guide and Print Drivers from the OKI website. For instructions on using PrintingPress Pro Extreme to preview and proof in white, you can view the Printing in White chapter in our Training Manual. |

|
Q: |
Can you choose to apply the white first or last? |
A: |
Yes. Make 4-color images on dark media stand out by laying down White toner first and printing CMYK on top—the same technique used for producing vibrant 4-color images on translucent media or transparency film. Printing color on top of white uses the duplexer and thus may not offer perfect registration for fine lines on the second pass. |

Q: |
Can I wait and purchase the extended warranty at a later date? |
A: |
Purchase of the C942 requires a minimum 1 year warranty as well as a white toner install kit, so we have bundled them all together for you. You can purchase an extended warranty up to 1 year from the date of purchase. Once the included one-year on-site warranty expires the extended warranty will no longer be available. |

Q: |
Is this a printing service you provide or a printer we can buy? |
A: |
This is a printer you can buy so you can provide white printing onto dark card stocks and envelopes to your clients at your location. |
|
|
Q: |
Does this printer also print in black? |
A: |
Yes, definitely! It is a full color printer in addition to printing white. It has a black toner cartridge in addition to the white 5th toner bay. |

|
Q: |
What types of paper do you recommend for use with the white toner? |
A: |
In general you can use any paper that indicates it is laser printer compatible and does not exceed 360gsm in weight. If you are unsure if a stock is laser compatible, please check with the paper vendor or mill. The best laser stocks have a flat and smooth “vellum” finish, or are metallic stocks. Stocks with a cotton, soft or textured finish (other than linen) often do not provide the smooth even surface that is optimal for laser and are better suited to ink printing. If a paper is particularly textured you should mail yourself a test to make sure the toner does not rub off, and you should typically print card stock and envelopes with the Ultra Heavy 3 setting for maximum fusing. |

Q: |
Can I use this printer with an older version of your software? |
A: |
Only version 7.0 or higher of our software includes the enhancements that enable you to simulate on screen how your print will look when printed onto a specific paper color with white toner. This helps save a lot of white toner by reducing the number of test prints you need to perfect a design. The version 7.0+ enhancements also include the option to select a paper color and white toner printing, and to choose to simulate white toner printing when you email a proof to your clients. |
|
|
Q: |
Can I use this printer with other software? |
A: |
Yes, you can use the printer with any printing software, but only PrintingPress Pro Extreme (version 7.0 or higher) includes enhancements to enable you to design in black and then simulate on screen how your print will look when printed onto a specific paper color with white toner. This makes it easier to view your text on screen while designing and then helps save a lot of white toner by reducing the number of test prints you need to perfect a design. |
