Top 10 Design Ideas For Thank You Notes

You’ve created gorgeous invitations, programs, place cards and other items in your own custom, personalized style, so your thank you notes will complete your ensemble in a stylish and personalized way…which is the best way to present your personalized note of gratitude. Since the wording of your thank you notes is such an important detail, and you may be overwhelmed with the huge task of writing out unique and personalized messages to all, check out my new book The Bride and Groom Thank-You Guide for wording ideas and further help with this task.

Here are the top design ideas for your perfect thank you notes:

  1. Match your ensemble…or not?
It’s your choice if you want to match your thank you notes to your invitation packets in color, shape, font and monogram or graphic. You can, of course, coordinate your collection with a uniform look, or you could reflect the change in your life with a change in color and style. For instance, if you went with a traditional invitation, or a blush pink, a mocha or almond color, you might wish to show that your life is now much brighter with a bright yellow card, a splashy azure blue, or blissed-out lavender.

  2. Convey the season
Since you might be sending your thank you notes a few months after the wedding, your thank you’s can incorporate a color of the season. For instance, your summer wedding invitation was a bright pink, and now your autumn thank you is a pumpkin orange, a cinnamon, a brick red. A winter thank you might be iced blue with silver print, or holiday green with winter graphics.

  3. Tie in an element
Even if you switch to a new color palette, you can tie in an element from your invitation design, such as the same type of stripes or colored circles, something that mixes the old with the new.

  4. Entwine your initials
    Finally!
You get to use your new, married initials. Use Mountaincow’s PrintingPress Platinum or PrintingPress Extreme invitation software's monogram design tool to expertly design and shade your joined initials for the cover or top of your thank you note.

  5. Picture it
Some thank you notes come in a style with an open picture window to display your wedding portrait. You can use already-made picture window card stock, or attach your photo to the front of your card using stick-on picture corners attachments in a coordinating color. Never glue stick your photo to your thank you note, as most guests wish to keep your picture. Always use a real photo, not a substandard photocopy.

  6. Style your photos
There’s no need to give everyone the same exact photo (although it’s nice to send everyone a photo). Select personalized shots, such as one of you with your parents, bridal party, child attendants and so on, so that you can match the perfect shot to the recipient.

  7. Create a thank you note collection
Since it’s so easy to design personalized thank you notes, you can create different styles for different types of recipients. For instance, all of your guests will receive the same, formal thank you note, but you can create a special design for your bridal party, an extra-special design for parents and grandparents who helped pay for the wedding, and custom cards for each of your wedding vendors. You’ve just created your own ‘line’ of thank you notes.

  8. Leave the inside blank
While you can design and print a message for the front of your card, including your monogram and any graphics or design elements, the inside of the thank you card is where you will hand-write your personalized thank you message. It’s just proper and gracious to specify how much you loved a gift as well as any special memories with that guest on the wedding day.

  9. No computer print here either
Hand-sign your names to the card as a mark of good etiquette. No computer-print allowed for your signatures, although you can use a terrific handwriting-effect font for your envelope addressing, or the font you chose for your design.

  10. Add a little something extra
A tradition with thank you notes is enclosing an At-Home card which shares your new address, phone, cell phone, and e-mail. Even if you included this information on your wedding programs, it’s still smart to provide your guests with a fresh, new card to slip into their address books. Another add-in might be a card featuring your wedding Web site URL, where all of your friends and family (including those who couldn’t make it to the wedding) can see your freshly updated site including photos from the Big Day and your blog about all of the wedding weekend events, inside stories, and favorite moments, plus a message from the two of you.
