A night with Bacchus
There is an old Latin proverb, “It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking (wine): the arrival of a friend, one's present or future thirst, the excellence of the wine, or any other reason.” So let the revelry begin! Whether you want to invite a large group or just a few friends, our invitations are certain to prepare the most discerning palettes for some fabulous wine.
Our PrintingPress design is perfect for a casual tasting. A few monstera leaves float across the top of the Ecru A7 card. We added the invitation text in black using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and the Benjamin font from Fonts & Graphics 2. We added another leaf along the bottom of the card. We lined the Ecru envelope in Clover to coordinate with the leaves.
Our PrintingPress Platinum design makes a bold statement. We added an orange geometric border to a White A7 card. We used floating text boxes to add the invitation text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We increased the horizontal and vertical spacing on both text boxes to create an airy look. We added the RSVP in the main text area without any additional spacing. We lined the White A7 envelopes in Mandarin Orange to make the invitation stand out even more.
For a truly personalized invitation, try our two-sided PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design. First we used the Repeated Text feature to add the names of many different types of wine to the background of the front of the card. We used a variety of fonts including the Times New Roman font, the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2, the Alyssa font and the Benjamin Shadow fonts from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings, and the Boys on Mopeds font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. For tips on using the Repeated Text feature, review the Extreme Tip from the November 2008 issue. Next, we added a black silhouette of a wine bottle. Then we used a floating text box to create a “label” for the wine bottle with the hosts’ names and monogram. We turned off the Make white transparent setting on the text box so that the white background remains opaque. We added double line custom border to the text box with the Ticket (Portrait) shape. For tips on creating double line borders, review the Extreme Tip from the January 2006 issue. We added the invitation text on the back of the card using the Benjamin Shadow font. Since the repeated text runs all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Ecru envelopes in Black for a bold look.

Back to school
It’s time to gather backpacks and pencil boxes and fill them with fresh school supplies. Whatever grade your child is in, it’s a good idea to label his or her belongings in order to make it easier to identify them in the Lost & Found should they be misplaced. Our fun book plates work for textbooks, notebooks, or anything that allows a sticker.
We used PrintingPress Extreme 5.0’s label stationery type to create a sheet of 4 x 2 inch labels. We created two designs that will work with most kids’ tastes. In order to bleed the design all the way to the edge of the label, we added a 0.125 inch overprint to each design.
Our first design is perfect for the girly rocks star in your family. We filled the background of the label with a custom pattern using two pink stars in different sizes. Next we added a purple guitar and several butterflies as floating images behind the main text area of the label. Then we typed the identifying information in purple using the Girls are Weird font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. Finally, we added a shape object with a 16 point purple outline to add a thick purple border to the label. Since the shape is floating on top of the main text area, it gets in the way when you try to click on the text. To make it easier to click and type without selecting the floating shape each time, in the Design palette group, click on the Enable/Disable Floating Objects button on the Align palette.
For the pirates in your brood, we filled the background of the second label with a new camouflage (blue) pattern. Next we added a white skull & crossbones to float above the main text area. Then we typed the identifying information in white using the Boys on Mopeds font from the Easy Invitations Bonus Content CD. We added a 16 point custom border to the label and used the Sample Color tool to match the darkest blue in the camouflage. For tips on using the Sample Color tool, review the Extreme Tip from the February 2006 issue.

Practice makes perfect
Rehearsal dinners can celebrate the practice run through for the big day, or a way to assemble special guests for a more intimate gathering before the crowds arrive. Whichever type of evening you’re planning, you need to be sure to let guests know if they are expected to attend. With all the other wedding details on your mind, don’t stress at all about the rehearsal dinner invitations. You can print one of our fabulous designs in a snap.
Our PrintingPress design is playful yet elegant. We added a blue dotty flourish to the top of a White 4.25 x 6.25 inch custom cut card. We added the invitation text in black using the Benjamin caps and Alyssa fonts from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the invitation to a Black 4.5 x 6.5 inch custom cut card. Then we mounted the pair to a Powder Blue A7 Scalloped card. Send in a Powder Blue envelope lined in Black for a dramatic flair. We added Custom Image StationeryStamps to bring the design to the outside of the envelope.
Our PrintingPress Platinum design is perfect whether your event is formal or casual. First, we added a background image with a white silhouette of cat tails on a field of green to an Ecru A7 card. Next we used a floating text box to add the invitation text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. We set the text color to off-white so that it would remain opaque with the text box’s Make white transparent setting enabled. For tips on this technique, see the Experts Only note in the April 2004 issue. We added the couple’s names to the main text area of the card using the Alyssa Afternoon font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Since the green background bleeds all the way to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the Ecru envelopes in Avocado and added cat tails (willow) Personalized StationeryStamps.
If you crave color, try our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design. We added a custom background filled with a new ornate (lemon yellow) pattern to the background of a Square card. Next, we added a shape object with the shape set to Oval. We set the shape’s background color to white and turned off the Make white transparent setting so that it remains opaque. Then we added a double line custom border in sky blue. We floated the shape behind the main text area of the card and then added the invitation text using the Times New Roman font with the text case set to Small Caps. We added the bride and groom’s names using the Alyssa font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings. Then we used the Special Characters palette in the Text palette group to add the accent to the bride’s name. For tips on using the Special Characters palette, see this month’s Extreme Tip. We also added a 0.125 inch overprint so that we could print the pattern all the way to the edge of the card. We printed the design onto a White 6.5 x 6.5 inch custom cut card and then trimmed it down to size. We lined the White Square envelopes in Sky and added ornate (yellow & sky) Personalized StationeryStamps.

Lock in your date
Some brides have been planning their weddings since they were girls, and some have put off the planning to savor being engaged for a while. Whatever your style, it is always a good idea to send out save the date cards to make sure that your guests don’t make other plans on your big day. We’ve created chic new designs to help you get the word out in style.
Our PrintingPress design makes a dramatic statement in black & white. We added a chandelier with a silhouette of cupid to the top of a White 4 x 5.25 inch custom cut card. We added the wedding information using the Times New Roman font in all lowercase letters. We used a double-stick tape gun to adhere the card onto a Black A2 card. We lined the White A2 envelope in Black and added cupid chandelier Personalized StationeryStamps in the Small size.
For a simple, modern look, try our PrintingPress Platinum design. We added an orange rectangle to the top of a White 4 x 5.25 inch custom cut card. We floated the image behind the main text area of the card and typed the bride & groom’s initials in white using the Arial font. We added the rest of the wedding information below in orange. We used a double-stick tape gun to mount the card to a Mandarin Orange A2 card. We lined the White A2 envelope in Mandarin Orange and added Custom Image StationeryStamps in the Small size.
Our PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 design has a vintage flair. We started by adding a shape object to the top of a White A7 card. We filled the shape with a new medallion (sage & white) pattern and set the shape’s size to 2.5 x 5.25 inches. We floated the shape behind the main text area of the card and aligned it to the top of the card. We added a double line border to the shape and set the shape’s border shape to Line (Bottom). Next, we added another shape object and set its shape to Ticket (Landscape). We added a dotted line border and turned off the Make white transparent setting so that the white background remains opaque. We floated the second shape behind the main text area as well and used the tools on the Align palette in the Design palette group to center it vertically on the first shape. Then we added two Victorian profiles of a couple and placed them above the second shape. We typed the bride and groom’s names using the Isabelle font from Fonts & Graphics 2 at the top of the card and set the margins so that the names fall just beneath the silhouettes. We added the rest of the text using the Benjamin Caps font from Fonts & Graphics for Weddings and the Isabelle font. Since the pattern runs to the edge of the card, we used our printer’s borderless printing feature. We lined the White envelopes in Black and added victorian silhouettes (willow) Personalized StationeryStamps.

What a great accent!
The Special Characters palette in PrintingPress Extreme 5.0 makes it easy to add accents or to find all the characters available in any font that you have on your computer. To add an accent, select the character in your card and then click on the appropriate accent button in the Special Characters palette. If you do not have a character selected, clicking on the accent button will apply the accent to the next character that you type using the keyboard. Please note that if the font you are using does not include the accented versions of the characters, they will not appear correctly when typed.

You can also search through all the characters in a font using the character grid in the Special Characters palette. Choose the font using the Font combo box or using the View Font From Selection button and then scroll through the available characters to find the desired glyph. You can adjust the size of the grid using the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons. If you are using a font with swash characters, select the desired text and then click on the Swash Capitals (if available) button.
